Deadweight Tonnage (D/W)
Definition
Deadweight tonnage (D/W) is the weight of the cargo, fuel, crew, and supplies that a vessel can carry, excluding the weight of the vessel itself. It is a measure of the total carrying capacity of a ship and is used to determine freight rates and vessel suitability for specific cargoes.
